Born in 1973, Uttar Bahadur is a master Thangka artist who paints Thangkas in a range of styles and sizes. He began his career as a Thangka apprentice when he was 12 years old. He was the second batch trained by his village monk (household monk). Later, he met Gyanu Lama, a senior artist residing in Thamel and began further training and work in between 1987 to 1995. Since then, he has trained over 25 artists to date, out of them ten are being well-known professionals. He is well known for his miniature Thangka paintings, which are commonly worn as a Jantar (protective amulets). He is currently based in Boudha and operates a private Thangka workshop.
