Tara Man Bhomjan

Introduction

Tara Man Bhomjan, born in 1987 in Betini-09, Makwanpur, Nepal, is a distinct name in the Thangka art community. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in Thangka painting, Tara, along with his four siblings, was immersed in this sacred art form from the age of 16. His artistic journey began under the guidance of his elder brother, Suman Bhomjan, who introduced him to the intricate techniques and styles of Thangka painting. Aside from this initial mentorship, Tara refined his skills by thorough self-study of the works of senior Thangka artists as well as  examination of artworks from various monasteries. This self-directed approach has allowed him to deeply comprehend and master the nuances of Thangka painting.

Artistic Style & Inspiration

Tara has mastery over various styles of Thangka painting. However, he is best known for the Karmagadri, Menri, and Paubha styles of Thangka painting. Known for his meticulousness, Tara places great emphasis on the Thangka painting process, which includes the philosophy and teachings of each deity, iconography, iconometry, and composition, ensuring both refined artistic  technique as well spiritual significance.
