Devendra Sinkhwal

Introduction

Born as the eldest son of Krishna Gopal Sinkhwal and Krishna Maya Sinkhwal, Devendra Sinkhwal was born in the month of Paush of 2035 in Gahiti, Bhaktapur. Sinkhwal was interested in art even from a young age and used to make masks with clay as the medium. He also copied the drawings that were in his books and used to keenly observe the idols of the deities in the temples.

Being interested in arts and culture from a young age, Sinkhwal thought this occupation befitting for him and chose to develop necessary skills for this field. For this, starting from 2049 B.S., he used to observe his uncles Sundar Sinkhwal, Ratna Gopal Sinkhwal and Indra Sinkhwal working and used to ask questions when he had confusions. In his early paintings, the face of the deity was drawn by his uncle Sundar Sinkhwal. Later Sinkhwal taught his skills to his younger brother Mahendra  Sinkhwal.

Sinkwal took part in the National Arts and Craft Exhibition held annually by Nepal Academy of Fine Arts from the year 2053 BS to 2062 BS consecutively and later in the years 2069 BS and 2075 BS. He also participated in a group exhibition organized by Nepal Bhasa Academy in the year 2057 B.S. Sinkhwal has also participated in all the exhibitions organized by our organizations in the years 2057, 2058, 2059, 2061, 2068 and 2073 B.S.

Sinkhwal was awarded with First place by Nepal Academy of Fine arts in National Arts and Craft Exhibition 2060 B.S. Likewise, Sinkhwal was placed third in National Arts and Craft Exhibitions for the years 2055 and 2062 B.S. He was also able to achieve first position in National Art Exhibition organized by Nepal Artist Society in the year 2062 B.S. Similarly, Sinkhwal also secured a Special Award in National Arts and Crafts Exhibition in the year 2069 BS.

In the year 2060 B.S. Sinkhwal worked alongside other artists in completing the mural painting in Tara Foundation, Lumbini. His artworks are exhibited in Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan and in other places in the country as well as abroad.
